    Dietetics Department:

Dietitians are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public-health level. They work with both healthy and unwell people. Dietitians use the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease which they translate into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.

Our dietitians cover a variety of nutritional concerns that arise in the mental health population including, but certainly not limited to, the following:

    • Malnutrition
    • Hydration
    • Obesity
    • Diabetes
    • Cardiovascular disease
    • Eating disorders
    • Dysphagia
    • Gastrointestinal disease
    • Specialty diets
    • Bone health
    • Pressure sores/wound healing
    • Chronic kidney disease

The Dietitians work on an individual level to assess nutritional needs (based on a review of medical and diet history, blood tests, weight and weight trends, and other physical measurements).

Dietitians then educate and support the service user to establish realistic short term and long term goals, guiding them with information and techniques to stay on track with their nutritional care plan. They provide ongoing support to both service users and their carers.
